Jalisco is set to transform its tourism landscape with an ambitious investment plan totaling over $1 billion. Private investors will fund the construction of 38 new hotels across the state, aiming to add 4,578 hotel rooms by 2028. This initiative represents a major boost for the region’s hospitality industry and aligns with the state’s strategy for sustainable economic growth.
The investment will be distributed among a variety of international and local hotel chains, as well as independent properties. Notable contributions include:
- InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG): 7 hotels, $165 million
- Hilton: 4 hotels, $90 million
- Marriott: 4 hotels, $65 million
- Hyatt: 3 hotels in Puerto Vallarta, $295 million
- Chablé El Tezcalame Tomatlán: $230 million
- ME by Meliá: $45 million
- NH Guadalajara Suites: $26 million
- Four Points by Sheraton: $15 million
- The Brada Collection: 2 hotels, $8 million
- Serenzzo Tapalpa: $2 million
- Shaalam San Juan Cosalá: $6 million
- Suites Liveup: $20 million
- World Hotels: $13 million
- Eight independent hotels: combined $100 million
These developments will be strategically located in key tourism destinations such as the Guadalajara metropolitan area, Puerto Vallarta, and Costalegre. The expansion is part of a broader effort led by the Jalisco state government to position the region as a premier destination for both domestic and international travelers.
With this growth, Jalisco aims to surpass 90,000 hotel rooms by the year 2030. This expansion is supported by a steady rise in tourism, with over 11 million visitors arriving between January and April 2025 — a 1.6% increase compared to the same period in 2024.
Jalisco’s strong infrastructure plays a vital role in this growth, including two international airports in Guadalajara and Puerto Vallarta, providing excellent connectivity for global travelers.
The timing of many of these hotel openings is carefully planned to align with major global events, most notably the 2026 FIFA World Cup. With more than 2.5 million visitors expected during the tournament, 12 of the 38 new hotels are set to open before the event kicks off — perfectly positioning Jalisco to meet the surge in demand and showcase its world-class hospitality.
