A new chapter in luxury hospitality begins as IHG strengthens its presence across Australia.
IHG Hotels & Resorts is set to expand its footprint in Australia’s luxury and lifestyle hospitality sector through a long-term strategic partnership with Salter Brothers. This collaboration will see the transformation of several high-profile IHG properties and mark the highly anticipated return of the Regent Hotels & Resorts brand to Australia, after a 28-year absence.
Regent Hotels Returns to Australia
As part of the agreement, the iconic InterContinental Melbourne will be rebranded as Regent Melbourne. This exciting transformation will symbolize the Regent brand’s comeback in Australia and is expected to be completed by 2030.
Expansion of the InterContinental Brand
Three well-established properties will be elevated under the prestigious InterContinental brand:
- Crowne Plaza Sydney Coogee Beach will become InterContinental Sydney Coogee Beach.
- Crowne Plaza Melbourne will transition to InterContinental Melbourne.
- The Crowne Plaza Canberra site will be redeveloped into InterContinental Canberra.
Introducing Hotel Indigo to Canberra
In addition to the InterContinental expansion, a brand-new Hotel Indigo will be developed on the former Crowne Plaza Canberra site, marking the brand’s first presence in the nation’s capital.
Enhancements to voco Gold Coast
The renowned voco Gold Coast—the very first voco hotel to open worldwide—will undergo a comprehensive refurbishment. This includes upgrades to its leisure facilities, further enhancing the guest experience and reinforcing its pioneering status in the voco brand portfolio.
Strategic Investment in Luxury Hospitality
These ambitious developments represent a significant investment of over $1 billion in Australia’s luxury and lifestyle hotel market. The project is aimed at repositioning key assets, maximizing long-term value, and delivering memorable, world-class hospitality experiences to guests across the country.
IHG’s Expanding Presence in Australasia
IHG Hotels & Resorts currently operates 76 hotels across Australasia under nine distinctive brands, with an additional 26 properties in the development pipeline. This new agreement with Salter Brothers highlights the growing trend toward hotel conversions and reflects the dynamic and evolving nature of the Australian hospitality landscape.
