IHG Hotels & Resorts has officially launched its Candlewood Suites brand in Europe with the opening of its first property in Berlin, Germany. This milestone marks the brand’s debut outside of the Americas and represents an exciting expansion into the European extended-stay market. The newly opened Candlewood Suites Berlin Charlottenburg is part of a dual-brand collaboration with NOVUM Hospitality, one of Europe’s leading privately-owned hotel operators. The property shares its location with the recently launched Holiday Inn – the niu Flash, creating a versatile stay experience for both short- and long-term guests.
Comfort Meets Convenience: What Candlewood Suites Offers
Candlewood Suites is an aparthotel brand designed with long-stay travelers in mind. Each suite offers a spacious studio or apartment-style layout, featuring a fully equipped kitchen complete with a microwave, refrigerator, dishwasher, and coffee and tea-making facilities—providing guests the flexibility to prepare their own meals and enjoy a home-like experience.
Guests can also take advantage of self-service laundry, access to on-site gym facilities, and weekly housekeeping. Additionally, the Candlewood Cupboard—an on-property marketplace—offers a variety of drinks, snacks, and daily essentials, along with freshly brewed bean-to-cup coffee and tea available 24/7.
Strategic Expansion Across Germany
Located on Franklinstraße in Berlin’s vibrant Charlottenburg district, the Berlin property is the first of many Candlewood Suites planned across Germany. IHG and NOVUM Hospitality have announced five more locations set to open within the year in:
- Fürth – near major supermarkets and shopping areas
- Heidelberg – in the Quartier am Turm district
- Düsseldorf Airport
- Augsburg – in the Regensburger area
- Berlin Airport – expected to open in Q3
These new properties are part of a broader development plan, following a long-term agreement between IHG and NOVUM Hospitality to bring 13 Candlewood Suites hotels to Germany. Many of the upcoming hotels are being converted from NOVUM’s former acora Living the City and Novum hotel brands.
Looking Ahead
With more than 395 Candlewood Suites already operating worldwide, the brand’s arrival in Europe marks a significant step in IHG’s continued global growth. Offering guests both independence and convenience, Candlewood Suites is well positioned to meet the evolving needs of modern travelers across the region.
