Vacation stress keeps many Americans from fully unwinding
A new national survey suggests time off does not automatically translate into rest for many U.S. travelers. Talker Research, working with Margaritaville Vacation Club, queried 2,000 adults who had taken a trip within the past year and found that a majority wrestle with switching off, even once they arrive at their destination.
More than half of respondents said they do not really know how to do nothing, and a similar share described relaxing on holiday as difficult. Nearly half feel guilty if they leave their itineraries open. Frequent use of the phrase “I’m busy,” ongoing concern about money and unfinished tasks, and worries about forgetting something all contribute to a sense of constant pressure.
How travelers try to ease vacation stress
Participants reported gravitating toward outdoor time, scenery, music, and water to clear their minds. Many spend large portions of their trips in their rooms or at on-site amenities, which most say helps them break routine and recharge, even if daily stress quickly resumes at home.
