Record travel bookings reshape German holiday market
Germany’s travel bookings have climbed to an unprecedented level, with spending significantly above both the prior year and pre-pandemic benchmarks. According to industry figures presented at ITB Berlin 2026, holidaymakers are committing earlier in the season and directing a large share of their budgets toward organized trips such as package holidays and cruises.
The package holiday segment alone now represents nearly half of all travel spending handled by tour operators, helped by demand for clear pricing, financial safeguards and reliable support during disruptions. At the same time, all-inclusive concepts are encouraging travelers to curb discretionary outlays at their destinations, particularly on restaurants and excursions.
Air travel and risk management trends
Air travel is expanding in tandem with this surge in travel bookings, with double-digit growth in both sales and passenger volumes. Industry leaders also stress the close link between tourism and aviation, urging competitive domestic air connections to sustain Germany’s appeal. Geopolitical tensions, including developments in Iran, are being watched closely, with traveler and staff safety remaining a central concern.
