IHG expansion targets key Chinese and regional hubs
InterContinental Hotels Group is preparing a new phase of growth in Greater China, scheduling a cluster of openings for the first half of 2026. The pipeline spans major metropolitan centres and secondary cities, broadening the company’s reach beyond its existing network of more than 1,400 open and pipeline hotels in over 200 cities.
The projects draw on a wide mix of brands, from luxury and lifestyle flags to midscale and extended-stay concepts. Several hotels are planned near leisure and entertainment anchors such as Taipei Dome and the Shanghai Disney resort area, while others in cities including Chengdu, Chongqing and Beijing are described as weaving local culture into their design and guest experience.
Strategic focus of the IHG expansion
Together, the 2026 openings are intended to deepen coverage of both tier-one and tier-two markets and serve a variety of trip purposes, from short city breaks to longer stays. The article notes that detailed opening dates and room counts have yet to be released.
