Hotel Indigo, a member of IHG Hotels & Resorts’ luxury portfolio, has launched its first New Zealand property with the official opening of Hotel Indigo Auckland in the central Midtown district. The hotel, with 225 rooms, is expected to become a vibrant destination for tourists and local Auckland residents, known as Aucklanders.
The hotel is situated on a historic site, previously a motor house from 1912 that imported Cadillacs to New Zealand. The hotel’s design pays tribute to this industrial history by combining heritage-listed and modern architecture. The hotel’s interior offers a cultural immersion with stunning design and gallery-quality artwork.
New Zealand contemporary artist and photographer Stuart Robertson has curated a unique photographic exhibition for the hotel, which spans all 25 accommodation floors. Each floor tells a different story of Auckland through visual representation, capturing the essence of the neighborhood and its contemporary popular culture.
Simone Haag, a renowned stylist, has transformed the hotel’s lobby into a showcase of local artistry, featuring handcrafted paintings, wooden sculptures, ceramics, glasswork, woven pieces, and leather creations. Raukura Turei, a multidisciplinary artist, architect, and designer, has created two installations using natural elements from her ancestral lands, exploring connections to atua (gods) and tīpuna (ancestors).
The hotel, one of Auckland’s tallest buildings, boasts floor-to-ceiling windows that offer stunning views of the city skyline and harbor. The design of Hotel Indigo Auckland embraces the site’s motoring heritage, with each of the 225 rooms (including 10 accessible rooms) featuring automotive-themed touches.
Bistro Saine, a French-Mediterranean restaurant led by Executive Chef Yutak Son, highlights the hotel’s culinary offerings. The menu is rooted in seasonality and local provenance, drawing inspiration from Europe’s grand brasseries and the energetic dining scenes of New York.
Hotel Indigo Auckland is ideally located near key landmarks such as the New Zealand International Convention Centre, Sky Tower, SkyCity Casino, the Britomart precinct, Wynyard Quarter, and the Viaduct.
